Project Description Country: USA Location: Fallbrook Total Budget: $1,500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Provide free books and encourage reading by Fallbrook Elementary School 3rd Graders Consult with school district administrators to indentify low performing, low inclome 3rd grade students. Work with school administration to select and purchase an appropriate educational book for each student. Work with school staff and arrange for Rotarians to visit classrooms, give a book to each student and read the book with students. During and after reading the Rotarians create a "game show" atmosphere by asking fun reading comprehension questions that encourage attention and participation. Funds will be used to purchase approximately 800 books to give to students. The project will be completed by May 2017.
