Project Description Country: USA Location: Sheridan, Wyoming Total Budget: $1,500 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Partnership with Raising Readers in Wyoming to purchase books for distribution to children in Sheridan County. The Rotary Club of Sheridan, Wyoming will partner with Raising Readers in Wyoming to purchase books for distribution to local pediatricians in Sheridan County. Raising Readers in Wyoming encourages parents to read to their children by providing new books as part of their well child health care visits. Raising Readers in Wyoming's funding has recently been reduced creating a need within our community. By partnering with this initiative, our club will further a humanitarian project that focuses on early childhood literacy. Raising Readers in Wyoming has a new list of book titles that have been vetted by their literacy committee and plan to place an order before November for the new titles. Once the books have been ordered, our club will work with Raising Readers to design a sticker with Rotary's logo to place on the back of each book that will be donated. Our Club members will then organize a time within the following months to personally distribute the books to the local pediatrician's offices. I have since been able to speak with the local volunteer and she has informed me that a new shipment of books will be coming in. We have scheduled to contact each other on April 5th to confirm the receipt of the books and schedule a time for our club to label and distribute them.
