Project Description

Country: Nicaragua

Location: Somoto

Total Budget: $1,500

Area of Focus: Water and sanitation

Activity Type: Water: Sanitation

Summary: Purchase water filters for remote villages in Nicaragua

Remote villages in Nicaragua do not have clean water for drinking or food preparation. Current water source is wells that are contaminated, and local stream/river which is used for bathing and watering livestock. Locally made water filters are able to provide clean water via a clay pot system. The filters have a useful life of at least 10 years if properly maintained and cleaned. The sponsored mission trip will be leaving for Nicaragua in June and spend 10 days in the remote areas, with emphasis on eye, dental and other medical care. Hastings Sunrise Rotary club will be involved via initial sponsorship of $250.00 plus an additional $250.00 for next years mission trip.
