Project Description Country: USA Location: Southlake/Grapevine TX Total Budget: $2,500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Dictionaries distributed to 3rd graders in Carroll and Grapevine/Colleyville School Districts This project is designed to promote literacy and our club presence in our community by distributing dictionaries to all the 3rd graders in Southlake Carroll school district, and approximately 4 schools identified in the nearby Grapevine/Colleyville school district. Almost 100% of our club participates in this project, both in preparation of the dictionaries for distribution, and actually going to the elementary schools and handing out the dictionaries to the individual 3rd grade classes. In addition to promoting literacy and education in our local community, this project provides our club Rotarians the opportunity to educate and promote Rotary, in general, and the service we provide locally and globally. The timeline of this project is coordinated with the school districts and distribution of the dictionaries is generally accomplished in a 1-2 week window in the month of September. The project funds are used to purchase the dictionaries as well as Rotary 4-way test stickers which we place on the inside cover of the dictionaries before we distribute them.
