Project Description Country: USA Location: Laramie, Wyoming Total Budget: $1,500 Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment Activity Type: Health: General Summary: Suicide prevention task force for the youth of Albany County, Wyoming. In the 2014 - 2015 school year, Laramie and Albany County experienced an unacceptable level of suicides in its schools. In response, an Albany County Suicide Prevention Task Force was created. Task Force members first created a talk and text suicide prevention hot line. After the hot line was in operation, Task Force members researched suicide prevention programs and found very good ratings for an evidence-based program called Sources of Strength. The Laramie Sources of Strength program began with two Albany County schools in the 2015 - 2016 school year. The Task Force now sponsors Sources of Strength in all four Albany County schools, the University of Wyoming, and the Albany County Campus of Laramie County Community College. The Task Force also is continuing to promote its talk and text suicide prevention hot line. Sources of Strength and the hot line has been funded by contributions from Rotary, Kiwanis, and a grant from The Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming. The Laramie Rotary Club has pledged between $1,500 and $2,000 to help support the Task Force's Laramie suicide prevention efforts for school year 2017 - 2018. This Centennial Grant request will help provide funds for Rotary's support. A past president of the Laramie Rotary Club is the chairman of the Task Force and other Rotary Club members are on the Task Force. Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed) Robert Leonard, a past president and current member of the Laramie Rotary club is the Chairman of the Albany County Suicide Prevention Task Force. Jenny Eisenhauer and Larry Struempf, both members of the Laramie Rotary Club, are on Suicide Prevention Task Force Board. Robert Leonard was instrumental in developing the Task Force, setting up the Hot Line, and researching the suicide prevention programs to be implemented throughout Albany County, Wyoming. Mr. Leonard coordinates the training seminars that "Sources of Strength" provides to train school staff and students in their program. The monies from this grant will go toward supplying educational materials in administrating the "Sources of Strenth" program and for providing the training seminars that are required at each school within the Albany County, Wyoming School District. To date, $200.00 have been used for training sessions associated with the Sources of Strength suicide prevention program. In the coming months, the bulk of the remaining funds will be distributed for the purpose of providing materials, required licensing and training for the Sources of Strength program throughout the Albany County, Wyoming School District. However, a big expenditure is coming within the next month for the purchase of materials, support services and licensing for the Sources of Strength program used by the Albany County Suicide Prevention Task Force. This expenditure will use up the remaining funds allocated for this project, including the $1,000.00 Centennial Grant Funds for District 5440. 13-Apr-18 by Randall Looper System Entry: Project has been implemented and final report uploaded. 16-Jun-18 by Tim Eisenhauer The moneys allocated from District for this centennial grant have been received and have also been spent. The Centennial Grant money was used to provide supplies, training, and support of the Albany County Suicide Prevention Task Force and the Sources of Strength support program. This project is complete.
