Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Kingman, AZ

Total Budget: $8,834

Areas of Focus: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution, Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Child Protective Services provides visition rooms for supervised visits between parents and children. The rooms need to be modified to provide a setting more conducive to family visititation.

This project is being submitted as a joint effort between the Kingman Rotary Club and the Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club. The Kingman Club has agreed to partner with the Route 66 club with Route 66 being the primary sponsor.

Child protective services has been charged with protecting children from harm. One of the processes that is involved is to educate parents and then re-unite children with their parents. A key step is to begin supervised visits at the CPS offices. Currently the visits take place in a stark sterile setting. This does not support the need for the interaction to take place in a more "home-like" warm setting. Parents are supervised having meals, helping children with homework, discussing their relationship, and other normal activities. This project will involve decorating and furnishing the visitation rooms in during the summer of 2013. The grant will provide furniture, floor coverings, wall coverings and paint. In addition the grant will provide some games and activities that the parents and children can do together in support of the program's goals. Some furniture and games will be donated.

The clubs will donate labor for the project for cleaning, painting and removal of existing infrastructure.

After completion of the project the general public will be made aware of the result in 3 ways. Rotary will be acknowledged with plaques in the visitation area, a photo in the paper

when the rooms are dedicated, and recognition in social media where the clubs have several friends and followers.

This project is in process. Both Kingman clubs have participated in some of the labor involved. The flooring has been replaced. A work project to paint the walls was completed using donated paint. The furniture has been ordered and will be shipped. The art club at Kingman Academy of Learning High School has taken the wall murals on as a project and are in the design process for the murals. The project is on track. We will include pictures of the final product when it is complete.

All reports and information were submitted 2 months ago. The only "loose end" was to send a check to the district for the funds that were not used due to cost saving measures for the project. The check was sent and is in the district's hands. This project should be considered complete.
