Activity Type:
Community Development: Disaster Recovery
Summary: Solar power to provide electricity for schools/orphanage.
In October, 2016, Hurricane Mathew destroyed the power grid in southern Haiti. An orphanage/children's community known as Pwoje Espwa (Project Hope), home to approximately 240 resident children, has been without electricity since the disaster. In addition to the resident students, there are local village children who also attend Pwoje Espwa. Overall, the schools provide education for over 1,000 students. The funds from this Grant will be added to other humanitarian grants/donations for construction of a sustainable power source i.e., solar.
