Project Description

Country: Nepal

Location: Mulpani Village

Total Budget: $7,800

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Activity Type: Community Development: Disaster Recovery

Summary: This project will reconstruct and maintain a clean drinking water supply for 75 families living in Mulpani village, Kathmandu District, Nepal. The water supply is located in a public place where people come and get drinking water and wash clothing.

Current Situation: The existing water supply was damaged during the earthquake in April/May 2015. The pipe which supplies water needs replacement. Ongoing maintenance of the water source is also necessary which will include installation of a filtration system and water storage tank. A water tap needs to be configured in such a way where everybody can use it.

This project will be managed by Rotarian Sudip Koirala, President-Elect-Nominee of the Rotary Club of Rudramati, Kathmandu in Rotary International District 3292 Nepal and Bhutan. Sudip Koirala visited the Estes Valley Sunrise Rotary Club and presented a compelling program on the need to refurbish this pipe. Our club spoke to the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, After Work, which has worked with Sudip since 2009 and has successfully completed over 40 projects with Sudip in Nepal. We learned that Sudip is very conscientious and always completes these projects. Some of our club members visited with Sudip and discussed this project at length. We learned that this project, which was selected by Sudip personally, will provide clean and safe drinking water to a small village that suffered damage from the devastating 2015 earthquake. That particular location is just outside of the Didi Foundation, an organization that provides vocational education for the Nepalese. It is also an area where women can socialize and support one another in challenging times. We are confident that this project will be a success as Rotaractors, Ganesh Khatri and Tara Guragain, will assist in completing this project.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

Addendum 2/25/21. Request for change to project scope.

During reconstruction of the water line to supply the 75 families, it was determined by the villagers that they could extend the water line to an adjacent school and provide water for 106 primary school students who would otherwise not have clean water at the school. In the past, the children had to bring their own water or leave the school in order to find a source of clean water to drink.

Funding for this change was not part of the original scope of the project. The reason the pipe extension to the school is feasible is because there were funds remaining from the original grant in the amount of $588. The villagers and Rotarians on site determined that this would be a cost effective use of these funds. Because of this, we are requesting approval of the remaining $588 for extension of the clean water supply to the primary school. With this change, all funding for the project would be fully utilized.

Leslie,

In order to be considered for a District grant the following needs to be completed:

- The clubs President-Elect needs to enter a Foundation goal for the 2019-2020 Rotary year.

- The financing needs to be fixed where all the DDF comes from the Estes Valley Sunrise club. It cannot be split between the three clubs.

If you have any questions or problems please email me.

Bill,

Since the added water pipe is really just an extension of the project you are good to go. Please make sure you also explain the addition in the final report and show it on the expenses part of the final report in addition to copies of all the receipts.
