Project Description Country: USA Location: Alamosa Colorado Total Budget: $4,000 Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Community economic development Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation Summary: Kitchen remodel to meet County Health Department requirements serving meals to over 3,000 community memrs LaPuente was established in Alamosa CO in 1981 by 5 women to meet the housing needs of homeless migrant workers and families. Over the past 38 years, there have been many additional services added to make the lives better for those living in poverty. One of the programs is serving 3 meals a day 365 days a year. The complete project will be to update the kitchen and dining area to safely prepare and serve meals in a sanitary environment. Unless the update takes place, the health department would likely close the facility. There are many activities to the whole project. The purpose of this grant request is to purchase new cookware and meal preparation utensils, install a janitor's sink and shelving in the janitor closet and install a dedicated drinking fountain in dining hall for volunteers and community members.
