Overview:
The Rotary Club of Anthem requests a District Grant of $650.00 for the purpose of supporting the Adult & Teen Challenge Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facility in New River, Arizona. This facility is building a new business of coffee roasting and sales as a source of revenue for Adult & Teen Challenge. Steve DeMar, a member of the Rotary Club of Anthem Foundation Committee, has prepared this District Grant request.
The 2018-2019 President of the Rotary Club of Anthem is Hunter Merrill, the 2019-2020 President is Krista Solomon.
Background:
Adult & Teen Challenge (formerly Teen Challenge) provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation at nearly 200 facilities across the US. When not participating in ongoing rehab training, Adult & Teen Challenge staff and residents are actively involved in fund raising activities for their treatment facility. The purpose of this project is to work with Adult & Teen Challenge to expand their coffee roasting fund-raising business. Adult & Teen Challenge will use the profits generated from this business to offset their many expenses in running the facility in New River, Arizona. The dollars from this grant will be matched by club dollars to help Adult & Teen Challenge purchase a coffee roasting machine, bags, supporting supplies, and internet marketing ads. Through these purchases the Rotary Club of Anthem expects to help them process and sell more A&TC Roast Coffee to an expanding customer base.
Implementation:
The total budget for the project is $1,500.00. The district grant will provide $650 to the project budget, and $850 will come from the Rotary Club of Anthem's 2019-2020 budget.
Adult & Teen Challenge will provide most of the manual labor in producing and packaging the roasted coffee for this project..
Rotary Club of Anthem club members will assist with the planning, purchasing, set up and marketing for this project.
Benefits:
1. The coffee roaster and related supplies will help Adult & Teen Challenge generate new revenue streams to support their ongoing work of Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation.
2. Working with Adult & Teen Challenge on branding and sales will involve Rotary Club of Anthem members and should lead to better results and higher sales.
3. A media release to local news outlets will explain the grant details, will provide facts about the Rotary Club of Anthem, Rotary International, and its funding model and financial oversight. The intent is to encourage the public to better know what Rotary does and increase awareness of Rotary programs and projects.
Timeline:
Estimated to take 3 months from date of funding to project completion.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
In the course of working with Teen Challenge, we found that they already had web marketing in place, with advertising for their web site given them because they are a 501c3 organization. Also, they already had printed coffee bags for shipment and were effectively processing web sales. We expected to spend $650 on a two pound coffee roasting machine. When a five pound coffee roasting machine went on sale, Teen Challenge asked that we spend the entire budget on that larger capacity machine, since that change would reduce their work time in roasting the beans. We did so, and that coffee roaster was delivered in late January 2020, and set up and running in early February.
