Project Description Country: USA Location: Anchorage, Alaska Total Budget: $5,000 Area of Focus: None Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: Provide items needed to new refugee arrivals The funds for this project will be used to purchase items for both personal and educational use to new refugee arrivals. The goal is to assist these refugees to assimilate within our country without the need for public assistance. Volunteers from Rotary will be the "set up team" to get the apartment ready for the new arrivals and to provide orientation assistance to the refugees. Interested Rotary members could choose to be Mentor Families, establishing a long-term relationship with a refugee family to assist in their transition to life in the United States. Opportunities to participate in educational classes for the refugees are also available.
