Total Budget: $600

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Education: Volunteer Services

Summary: Interact Club service trip to Agua Prieta- purchase and distribution of shoes, clothing and school supplies

Children in rural Mexico (Sonora) are lacking in proper shoes, clothing and school supplies in order to attend school. Interact students will distribute the needed items (personalized by size and need) to children in a village outside of Agua Prieta. This is part of our annual project trip to Agua Prieta with 15 Interact students and 6 Rotarians. The project is orchestrated by Club Rotario Agua Prieta in that they purchase the needed items in Mexico with our funds and then the students and Rotarians travel to the village (about 2 hours) to distribute the items, as well as spend time interacting with the students (usually with a game of baseball)

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

This project has required changes due to the fact that our Interact club was unable to participate in the scheduled annual service trip to Agua Prieta in 2020; as well as in 2021, due to Covid constraints. Our Interact Club has chose to propose using the funds to help purchase school equipment and supplies for a preschool in the same town for which they intended to visit - Fronteras. The funds will be a supplement to a project already in the works by our club to renovate a preschool in partnership with Club Rotario Agua Prieta, and will be used exclusively for the benefit of the children. Our Agua Prieta Rotarian partners will send us photos and videos to be shared with the Interact Club of the children benefitting from the grant.

This is to document that due to a major incident in late fall near Agua Prieta which involved the murder of several families doing service projects, our club decided it was not an appropriate time to take our students to Mexico. Therefore, we asked that the use of our Interact Grant be extended to a planned trip with our students next year (2021)

This project has been adjusted due to the inability of our Interact Club to travel to Agua Prieta for last year's annual service trip. Because we are conducting a club project to renovate and supply a preschool in Fronteras, MEX (the location where the last year's project was to be conducted), our Interact Club has chosen to use the budgeted amount from this project to fund the school supplies needed for the children of the preschool. We have requested that the Agua Prieta Club send photos or videos of the use of the funds to be shared with our Interact Club.

Ellen,

Based on the total change of this project please go into the the Description area, click on "edit the project page" and write an addendum to the project describing all the changes. Also add a new budget in the Documents area that matched these changes.

If you are not going to be able to complete these changes by the end of May 2021 you may want to consider having us delete this project and do this as a whole new project submitted in June 2021 for the 21-22 grant year. If you do that though you will need to return the District money you have already received.
