There are lower income families residing in Laguna Niguel who do not have dental insurance and cannot afford dental care for their children. Our Club plans to partner with the AYUDA International Dental Clinic, a nonprofit humanitarian dental, medical and educational organization and host a Chldren's Dental Clinic in November, 2013. Grant funding will be utilized to pay for cleanings and exams provided by dentists and dental students affiliated with AYUDA. Our Club will provide each child with a kit of dental products. This project will provide assistance in the form of dental care to lower income familites residing in the community of Laguna Niguel.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
The clinic will be held on November 23, 2013 at Hidden Hills High School in Laguna Niguel.
The Rotary Club of Laguna Niguel is very hands-on at the dental clinic. We do pay for the equipment and supplies, transportation of a group of well-trained, well-supervised dentists and dental students that bring their own equipment and therefore, hold all the liability. This is a smart process for our club. But how do we get involved? First, Rotarians who speak Spanish and English check in and answer questions for a total of approximately 100 families. Second, to supply food donations and discounts we work with local businesses to secure those donations. This creates an awareness for local businesses of the needs of our community and helps build relationships with business and Rotarians. Thirdly, three dental professionals who are Rotarians oversee the dental students. Last year one Rotarian was in the evaluation room, another out on the floor helping with procedures. This year an additional Rotarian who is a dental surgeon will also be overseeing. AYUDA allows our Rotarians to do this because of the special relationship our Rotarians have with Dr. Harris Done. Fourth, there are multiple Rotarians "working the room" and making sure dentists and families have everything they need and all their questions answered. The president of the club and the chair of the event always say a few words to the AYUDA group before we get started. Finally, a Rotarian supervises the Boy Scout volunteers from Pack 872 when they pack the goody bags previous to the event. Our Boy Scout volunteers also "stop by" the clinic and get a real education on needy kids in their community and Rotary's work here in the community. It's an all around awesome project
