The Gardens on Bragaw Project made for an upside down time line for Rotary involvement. Our club was given funds to disburse in August, at which time the garden had already been planted and was awaiting harvesting. The timing of gardening combined with an early Alaska winter meant that compost was our first major purchase, followed by shed refurbishment in the cold. The tiller was then purchased along with rose bushes and then most recently wood chips. Rotary involvement is best in Spring and Summer. Rotarians will be kept abreast of seed classes and opportunities to partake. This summer Rotarians will be invited to plant the rose bushes side by side with gardeners who sign up to tend a portion of the garden to use for their family's food needs.
