Summary: Upgrade to the Pediatric Oncological Center of Tijuana to reduce or eliminate the need to transfer children cancer patients to other hospitals for test and treatment in Tijuana, Mexico.
The Pediatric Oncological Center of Tijuana was created in 2006 with the goals: To provide comprehensive care for children with cancer; To provide the children with the opportunity to improve their health and quality of life; and To treat the children with respect, understanding and love in a friendly space, that is dignified and comfortable.
The Center is certified ISO 9000, which means that it adheres to the strict international standards for quality of its processes. Also, the Center is in partnership with the San Diego Rady Children's Hospital, where children are sometimes sent for procedures and treatment. Pictures and brief descriptions of some of the children who have been helpd at the Center are shown on the Supporting Documents page.
The Center uses a holistic approach to treatment where the entire family is involved, including the siblings of the patient. The Center provides access to not only physical treatment, but also spiritual, and emotional, and psychological support structures for the entire family.
Currently, when the child needs to be tested or sometimes treated, he or she must be transported to another hospital. This is disruptive and dangerous for several reasons. Besides taking them out of the Center's environment and disrupting that, the child is also exposed to other diseases and is even more susceptible due to the lowered immune system.
The solution - and the reason for this project - is to provide a testing facility on site along with four (4) isolated treatment rooms. This will preclude the need to remove the child from the Center, disrupting care, and exposing them to further complications. They can receive 100% of their testing and treatment at the center.
A complete equipment list along with preliminary pricing information is provided on the Supporting Documents page.
