Yukoner Morgan Weinberg has established a transitional safe house in Les Cayes, following the earthquake which killed thousands and left many homeless and/or lost. She works in Haiti at this safe house, providing care, health and education for children who have have been placed in her care by Haitian authorities. Many of these children have been rescued from situations of abuse, slavery, homelessness or severe neglect. Her goal wherever possible, is to reunite children with their parents and she works also to help their families become sustainable.
This grant will be used to send 6 older youth to an intensive 6 month professional training program. It is in Les Cayes and is run by Idejen, a very well established, locally run international organization. During an intensive 6 month program they will learn hands on techniques (they have carpentry, hospitality, cooking, mechanics, metalwork, sewing, etc.).At the end of the 6 months, they are tested and receive certification issued by the Haitian government. As well, the organization provides networking assistance to try and help them find employment once it is complete.
