In 1986, the Kearney Noon Rotary Club raised funds to build what is now known as the Rotary Nature Barn and is visited by local families during the summer months. (Memorial Day through Labor Day) There is no admission to enjoy the nature barn. We feel it is time to add some additional exhibits to the nature barn. Our goal is to have the new exhibits functional by July 1, 2014. Our members will be involved in helping to put the exhibits together under the supervision of Kearney's Parks and Recreation Department.
This is our second project in order of priority. If approved, we realize we would not receive the funds from the district until August 2014 and therefore our club would use our club funds for the entire amount and then reimburse our club the $1000 from the District when the check is received.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
After visiting with the Kearney Park and Recreation contact, it was agreed upon to order a clover leaf sandbox with corn kernels in place of the sand. The corn kernel sandbox is handicap accessible and has been placed inside the barn the first part of May 2015. There are small tractors in with the corn kernels. The Rotary Nature Barn opened for the season on Saturday, May 23, 2015. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
