Summary: Yukon Imagination Library - still growing!
The Yukon Imagination Library is a territory-wide family literacy initiative that provides one free book every month to enrolled Yukon children from their birth to the age of five. This translates to 60 free books in the homes of our Yukon children before they even enter Kindergarten!
Presently, more than 2,000 Yukon families are currently enrolled in the Yukon Imagination Library, representing approximately 65% of the eligible children in the Yukon. Our target is 80% reach within the next two years.
The Rendezvous Rotary Club first launched the Yukon Imagination Library in 2007, and we have made an annual commitment of $10,000 the project for the past three years, and we will do so again in 2015 -2016. Funds are raised through several community fundraising events and business and government partners.

In 2015 we partnered with the Yukon Indian Development Corporation and the Carmacks Development Corporation to provide an original Yukon story, “Lessons from Mother Earth”, written by Elaine McLeod of the Na-Cho Nyak Dun First Nation.
Together with the support of many sponsors and volunteers, the program has grown to currently over 1,500 children throughout the territory who receive books monthly. We are working diligently to increase this statistic and reach more families with our program.

Based on its ongoing success and increasing membership, the Yukon Imagination Library Project evolved into its own not for profit organization, the Yukon Reads Society. Four members of the Rendezvous Rotary Club, originally Advisory Board members for the Yukon Imagination Library now serve on the Yukon Reads Society Board of Directors and our Club continues to support this amazing literacy initiative which to date has nearly 70% of Yukon children - Territory wide enjoying free books each month.
