Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Ashton, Idaho

Total Budget: $1,000

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Install a welcome sign at the entrance to Ashton as a benefit to the city, the businesses, and the traveling public.

The need for a "Welcome to Ashton" sign has been identified by the Rotary Club, the Ashton Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Ashton. For the past three years, the Ashton Rotary Club has maintained a flower bed at the desired sign location with the goal of adding a sign to direct travelers into the city.

U.S. 20, the main highway through eastern Idaho, bypasses Ashton, and travelers can drive past without seeing directional signs for the community. The flower bed draws attention to the entrance to the city, and the addition of a welcome sign would help to direct travelers into town.

Plans call for installation of a metal sign on a wooden structure with a stone base. The sign would include the Rotary Club logo. Estimated cost of the sign is $1,000, and the club has $300 for the project. Club members would install the sign by November 2015 and maintain it along with the flower bed.

The travertine Rock has been purchased and placed on corner in Ashton. We are having a local high school make the lettering for sign. Premier will be making Rotary Symbol and powder coating all metal to be placed on rock.
