Summary: Provide 200 backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged youth ages 5-18
In 2012, the city of Santa Fe Springs Family & Human Services staff saw a need by local youth and their families for school supplies and started the Back to School Backpack Program for financially disadvantaged students. This year our Rotary club was asked to collaborate with the City in an effort to reach more families in need. By partnering with the city our goal is to supply 200 backpacks filled with school supplies. Program is designed for youth ages 5 to 18. Families will be screened by the city staff for eligibility. At the giveaway, families also have an opportunity to obtain additional resources from non-profit agencies. Giveaway will be on August 6, 2015. Club participation will include purchasing school supplies, utilizing one of our weekly club meetings to fill and sort backpacks by age group and setup, distribution and cleanup the day of the event. In total we expect club members will devote approximately 160 hours to this project.
