Summary: Provide approximately $125 in clothing and accessories for about 30 needy students in La Mirada Elementary Schools.
The Rotary Club of La Mirada will sponsor the Eileen Wade Clothes for Kids project. Ms. Wade was a longtime Rotarian who championed the club's annual shopping event for needy children for many years before passing away recently. Approximately $125 in clothing and accessories will be purchased for each of about 30 needy students. Clothing will include shoes, jackets, pants, shirts and undergarments. After completing the shopping event, students will be taken by bus to the La Mirada Activity Center for an intergenerational holiday party with local senior citizens. They will also have an opportunity to visit with City staff and Santa Claus. Rotarians act as chaperons during the shopping event, help with the intergenerational event and purchase and wrap gifts to be distributed at the intergeneration event to the children. Each elementary school in the City is contacted and asked to suggest names to be included on the list. Families are contacted to ascertain participation. The process begins in early October and ends with the shopping event in early December.
