3. Health: $10,000 will be used for medical equipment to reopen the local clinic that has been closed for a few years. $1,500 will be used to start a safe motherhood, child health & HIV/AIDS counseling and testing project.

4. Community Development and Microcredit: $6,000 will be used to buy furniture and a solar energy system for the local community center. $10,000 will be used to start a microcredit project in the village. $15,000 will be used to buy farm equipment to help the local community to process maize, cassava, millet and fruits.

Power supplied for now by by a 2KVA generator until mains power is delivered. DG Eric also handed over a motor-cycle for the Loans Officer, the first batch of drugs procured under the grant, and a symbolic cheque to start off the lending programme (actual programme awaits of the opening of a dedicated account by NKDU later this week). Education component now has only the training and monitoring components remaining.

DG Geeta's first activity as Governor was to visit Nkondo on Sunday 1st July. She handed over medical kits (solicited by Kampala North's Ssendi from outside the grant), a 10,000 litre water tank that will be the overhead tank; some books (also solicited from members and from elsewhere); the maize mill; the hurler; and two diesel motors (these will actually be swapped for electric drive motors). She also visited a model home and a farm, riding around on a motorbike belonging to Shaban Nkutu, one of the most successful in the group. She visited the building under construction for a maize mill. DG Geeta was visibly touched by the plight of mothers and the very limited medical facilities. An issue of Kampala North News (KNN) that captured this visit has been uploaded.
