Blinds people in Turkey is more than seventy seven thousand (77 000) in accordance with 2013 estimation. The life is difficult for them. This project aims to lessen difficulties of a small part of them. We are planning to acquire Braille Printing Unit which includes hardware and software.

Being blind means you need always help 7 days/24 hours in particular if you want something to learn. In Turkey more than seventy seven thousands (77 000) blind exist. There are 16 schools to train blind children and 2 rehabilitation and professional centers (Ankara and İstanbul). The above numbers are not enough to meet the need. The Goreneller school has already the JAWS software which is old version and converts some texts to voice.

The proposed project shall contribute positively for the quality of life of approximately 160 students. Blind students reach a new learning media.

The students of Goreneller School for Blinds in Ankara will use this hardware and software to print braille teaching materials and books and also convert the computers to braille usable units.

Existing student ages start from 5 years old and up to 18 years old. The number of the students benefitting from the project is one hundred sixty (160).

The project could be implemented in one month after funding and planning aspects are provided.

Implementation Steps and Operating: - Order of the product

-Transportation activitiy of equipment and software to School

- Operational controls and tests

- Updating the old software

- Training activities for teachers

- Starting to use the system

- Sustainability and Evaluation of the results of the acquired system

The following hardware and software to be provided meet the above goals:

Software Items (4300$):

1- JAWS For Windows Pro 13 Screen Reading Software, for minimum 5 computers.

2- Braille Translation Software for Printing Unit, minimum support 5 computers

Hardware Items (26700$):

1- Personal Computers, 3 pieces.

2- Braille Printers, 2 pieces .

3- Cabinets for Braille Printers, 2 pieces.

4. Existing system hardware also (2 each) to be used

5. Printing papers

6. Spare parts, typically, most replaced parts

Training (6000$) :

Two teachers shall be trained each year in Ankara. This application shall continue three years.

A pool for ten teacher will be planned 2 teacher x 3 years = 6 teacher

Club Members of Ankara Kavaklidere Rotary Club, Kemal Demir, Ali Dİnc and Efe Arica are responsible of organising the project and responsible for activating and testing the units.
