They lack basic amenities such as health, education, irrigation and employment.

DRINKING WATER

A pressing problem

Wells, which are the main source of drinking water, are constructed by the Government and are located in the valley.

As per the socio norms, the task of fetching water down under the valley to the respective huts on hillock is assigned to the women, children in the house.(Site pHOTOGRAPHS ATTACHED ) The children and Adivasi women of these villages have to walk a distance of more than 1,000 m in hilly terrain with pots of water on their head in extreme climatic conditions.

The children of the house are forced to do house work, main being fetching water instead of sending them to school and educating them.

WATER BRONE DISEASE

The wells are unprotected resulting in scarcity of potable drinking water, it has resulted in water borne diseases such as Diarrhea, Cholera, Dysentery, Typhoid, etc. The symptoms include abdominal discomfort, fatigue, weight loss, bloating, fever, loss of appetite, cramps, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, rash or itchy skin, jaundice, nose bleed, etc.

PROJECT FINANCIALS

Time period is 1 year. This incLudes submersible pump, solar energy,HDPE pipes ,fittings ,jointings, tank, plumbing fittings ,stand post ,labour for trenching,,jointings . A

SUSTAINABILITY

The club has already done three such projects in Jawhar district which are running successful since last half decade. Annual maintenance contracts are awarded, the villagers are well trained in maintenance of the the equipments

.A five member committee is formed in each village to look after the functioning the water supply .Each house contributes a minimum Rs 50 per month towards maintenance of the system. Some villages contribute more than the minimum amount.Maintenance within the guarantee period is carried by the OEM. Small repairs are carried out by the village teams.Major repairs are taken care of by experts from nearby city of PUNE . The Rotarians visit the village intervals keep track of the projects .
