Due to the Russian invasion and military actions in the Black Sea regions of Ukraine, many local vineyards were riddled with landmines. The liberated "dirty" lands do not allow Ukrainian farmers to return to normal life, to restore agricultural productivity and prosperity.
The main idea of the Global Grant is to facilitate the removal of landmines and helped reestablish vineyards using modern techniques with farmers from the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions (South of Ukraine). By improving farm techniques, addressing supply chain gaps, and supporting local vine makers, the MINES TO VINES project will improve livelihoods and contributes to building peace in war-torn lands.
The concept is to establish the Wine and Fresh Market Cooperative as a result of the modernization of the production facilities for joint use by the association of winemakers of the Black Sea region and other associations related to the production of food products such as cheeses, vegetables, honey, fruits...
On the basis of these capacities, each winemaker of the association will be able to undergo training, process grapes, and make and bottle his own wines or wines under the association's label. There should also be a demonstration site fair, where everyone can taste the products of the region and buy them, conclude contracts with farmers for the supply of products, and start an annual festival that is tied to the harvest.
By repairing gaps in the agricultural value chain, the MINES TO VINES project achieves greater economic independence, a fundamental requirement for peace. The project will be realized in cooperation with the ROOTS OF PEACE organization and the Ukrainian Association of Craft Winemakers of the Black Sea Region.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
