Bulamu (literally meaning LIFE) is a village community located 12 kilometers from the heart of the central town (Mityana) . Life in Bulamu is so challenging because people have no access to safe and sanitary water, there exists only 3 open valley ponds from which people collect the, this water is shared with animals, there are reported cases of drawning.
There is a high prevalence of waterborne diseases especially diarrhea and typhoid because of the contaminated water these has led to high deaths of children especially under the age of 5 years,and irregularities in the attendence of school going children finally leading to school drop outs . This is one of the reasons the academic levels of the community people.
This project will
1.Drill one borehole to serve averagely 500 people in the community
2.Distribute 120 Biosand water filters to 112 families, 1 health center and 2 schools
3.Construct 20 ferrocement tanks for rain water harvesting
4.Conduct 20 trainings to increase people`s awareness on basic sanitation and hygiene as well as household water treatment
5.Establish a local water management committee
The project will archieve
1.Reduced incidences of drawning in ponds
2.Increased access to safe drinking water from the eco-friendly Biosand filters
3.Reduced incidences of waterborne diseases
4.Improve children`s attendence at school
5.Increase people`s awareness on sanitation ,hygiene and househol;d water treatment
