Project Description Country: Kenya Location: Chogoria Total Budget: $6,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Scholarships Summary: Provide Scholarships to Students to Attend High School in an Impoverished Area in Kenya. This project will provide a full year scholarship of $250 for twenty-four (24) students to attend the Kiurani Secondary Boarding School in Chogoria, Kenya for one year. The financing would cover tuition and room and board for a year. After the project is complete, the school will sustain continuation of the program to keep the students educated by using either school funds or contributions from local or international NGOs. The background for this project lies in a five-year history that two of the Club's members has in supporting this scholarship program with donations from these two members, and friends and families. The High School is set in a rural and impoverished area of Kenya. Their families live in mud houses without electricity and only limited income from farming. Without, education these students have little or no options to make enough money to support themselves, their parents and siblings. The families and the entire community will be positively impacted by all students attending and graduating from high school. Because of their education, these students will become employable and bring improved finances to their families and their village. In addition to these scholarships, these Rotarians have also supported the school by supplying it with 1300 gallon water tanks that catch water for drinking and a bio gas installation to cut down on carbon emissions from wood, as well as a computers. The project will be completed on or before April 2018.
