The object of the project is to protect school children from being struck by lightning while at school by supplying and installing lightning conductors / arrestors to selected school classroom blocks.
Sanitation and hygiene are also to be enhanced at these schools through water harvesting and hand washing sensitization to prevent spread of hygiene related diseases.
This area (location) has experienced increased occurrence of lightning incidents. Un fortunately most reported casualties (fatalities) have been children at schools. This has led to a drop in school enrolment as parents tend to think that schools are prone to lightning and therefore a threat to lives of their children.
School administrators have been urged to find means of protecting children from this threat. The schools identified here are rural and cannot raise funds necessary. The schools identified here cannot afford the costs of these requirements.
Supplying and installing lightening arrestors on school classroom blocks will have to be done. The classroom so will become safe areas for the children who will always be encouraged to move into protected areas during thunderstorms.
These schools were also found to be low in hygiene thus the hand washing component.
The proposed project timeline is about 9 months from onset
