Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Montpelier, Idaho

Total Budget: $8,600

Area of Focus: Economic and community development

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Healing Garden for Newly Renovated Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier, Idaho.

Bear Lake Memorial Hospital(BLMH) has served the community of Montpelier, Idaho since 1950. BLMH completed a major renovation project in 2015. The project resulted in some green space being covered over with concrete and there is no place for patients and their families to sit outside and enjoy the healing impact of the sun and nature. We are proposing to use funds to purchase a "Pergola" gazebo that is 10' x 20', 2 benches, and two picnic tables. Additionally, due to our cold climate, two portable flower gardens will be constructed so that they can be wheeled into the hospital on colder summer nights.

Project will be started during summer of 2016 and be ready for use by the beginning of spring/summer 2017. (1) Pergola gazebo $3000.00, (2) picnic tables @ $1,500.00, (2) benches @ $800.00 and (2) rolling flower gardens @ 500.00. Project total: $8,600.00

Local Rotarians will be involved in the purchase, assembly, and installation of the Pergola, Picnic Tables, Benches, and portable flower gardens.

The project is still in process. The hospital decided that it wanted chairs and tables instead of picnic tables. We purchased 5 cast aluminum tables and chairs. We decided to forgo the moveable planters and beef up the picnic covering area (pergola). It was decided to design and build the covering as a club rather than purchase a pergola kit. This allowed us to design a stronger multi-season use structure. We are in the process of purchase of the rest of the materials and will start constuction within the next month. Structure will have a A frame design with metal roof and aluminum soffit and facia. Other than the support beams, it will be maintenence free. It is anticipated that the project will be completed no later than August 1, 2017.

All of the main components for the pergola have been ordered. The design of the picnic structure and labor to be done by Rotarians has lowered the cost of the structure by approximately $1000. After all the materials are purchased, a detailed list and accounting of materials will be submitted. The decision to forgo the planter boxes also frees up another thousand dollars. We are requesting that the $2000 be used to fund a semipermanent propane fire pit that can go into the structure and allow for it to be used for longer periods of time due to our short summer season. If there is any additional requuest that we need to make to the grant committee to make this change please respond either to my personal email or call me at 208-221-9183. Thanks, Shaun Tobler

Fire pit ordered and should be here within the next 2 - 3 weeks. At that time, the final report will be done. During that time, we will get a sign made to recognize Rotary and the other donors to the project. After the fire pit and sign are installed, the final report with pictures will be filed.

Fire pit has been delivered and is installed and ready for use. More pictures have been added to document Fire Pit installation. Still waiting on the sign to acknowledge donors. Final report will be made after sign is installed. I could not get the pictures that loaded sideways or upside down to rotate. No matter how I rotated them prior to trying to upload them, they would load on the grants page wrong.
