Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Big Sky, MT

Total Budget: $80,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Purchase & Build a new PLAYSCAPE playground in the new Plaza/Piazza located in Town Center, benefiting local and visiting children and their Families.

Rotary Club of Big Sky - Playscape at Big Sky Town Center;

Big Sky, MT is unique in that we continue to Build-out our TOWN CENTER, the main economic engine and driving force of our community. Our community has a need for a recreational playground, for local and visiting children and their families. The Rotary Club of Big Sky (RCBS) proposes to purchase and build a PLAYSCAPE (offering a wide range of developmental benefits to children) play area to meet the needs of children ages 5-12. The Funds will be used to purchase the safety surfacing, playground equipment, delivery, set-up and landscaping of the play area. Our Rotary Club will assist in selecting the final design, ordering the equipment, preparing the location, and our members will participate with hands-on labor in setting-up & landscaping of the playground.

The Playscape will be in the heart of the Big Sky Community's Town Plaza. This is a community meeting place for our Farmer's Market, local performances and a general public gathering area. We anticipate the Playscape to be constructed in the fall of 2018.

A local family has committed $40,000, and a local N.F.P. Community Foundation has committed another $20,000 directly to the Rotary Club of Big Sky for this project. The Rotary Club of Big Sky has committed our own additional $20,000, bringing the total project to $80,000. We are requesting a District Grant in the amount of $5,000.

Simkins Holdings, LLC will manage, insure, and be responsible for the construction contract. The members of RCBS will be involved by working with the contractor to install the playground equipment.

The project will showcase Rotary's commitment to the community and raise recognition in one of the most prominent sites in the Big Sky Community. The site will contain a sign stating the project was made possible by contributions by the Rotary Club of Big Sky.

We feel the project meets Rotary Goals of Economic and Community Development and will also encourage new members to learn and join the Rotary Club of Big Sky.

The Rotary Club of Big Sky is concerned about the status of Project P-2053 Town Center PLAYSCAPE, DG request for $5,000.

1) We listed Grant Hilton, Our Projects Chair, as contact person, per 'application'. He was asked to Sign, by Sue Carstens. He was informed on 4/2 that he was not authorized to sign.

The E-mail read: "You are not listed as a signatory. Cari Yturri should be added as PE. Dean will need to add you and Cari."

Neither Cari nor Dean are Members of Our Club.

2) So, As current President (or P.E. Sam Lightbody), both Authorized Signatories?, We would love to sign for this project. If the project needs to be fully funded for consideration, let there be NO DOUBT that this will happen. Should Rotary require a prior 'guaranty'. Perhaps that can be 'got'. Please Advise. Thank Y
