   Ecuador - Guayaquil

Mechanical Cows

$36,000

Guayaquil La Puntilla Rotary Club, La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club, and Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary Club propose to provide four "Mechanical Cows" (soy bean milk machines) for school sites in the Greater Guayaquil area and the coastal city of Portoviejo. Participating Rotary clubs from District 4400 will be Guayaquil La Puntilla, Guayaquil Cerro Azul and Portoviejo Reales Tamarindos, which is the home club of Governor Elect Llliana Garcia. The four sites are in impoverish areas and each will serve up to 500 Nursery/K-6 children with severe nutritional deficiencies. The three Foundations involved for this project are: Corporacion SER PAZ, Fundacion Cariņo, and Arquidiosis Portoviejo. The idea of these foundations is to allow the children to become the future leaders of Ecuador. With proper diet and education and solid spiritual and moral values and with a high self esteem, similar to that of a well being family, these children will become productive citizens of Ecuador. The Foundations support themselves with material donations, as well as personal time of many people and institutions with high calibre Board members, such as Past District 4400 Governor Ricardo Koenig. Feeding these children as if they were their own has been a main concern of these Foundation Boards so that the children can grow physically and mentally in a strong way to face the challenges of the future. Because of this, the Foundations are requesting the generous assistance of Rotary International to obtain funds for these soybean milk-producing machines. This high-protein staple will be beneficial to the physical and mental development of these children which will enhance their learning abilities. La Puntilla Rotary and La Mesa Sunrise Rotary will work hand in hand to assure good accountability of the four mechanical cows and service provided to the children and their families. District 5340 Assistant Governor David Ballesteros was in Guayaquil in October 2007 examining the sites for project.
