   Botswana - Maun

OVC Transporter for Day Care

$35,500

To purchase a Mini Bus for transporting Orphans and Vulnerable children to Day Care Center for care and counseling. The center picks up 60 children every day from the homes where they are being cared for by grandparents, siblings or other family members. Most of the children have lost parents due to AIDS or Road Accidents, the two major causes of death in Botswana.

Maun is a town on the edge of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, a big tourism site where AIDS is rife.

The Day Care Center is 500 km from the Francistown Rotary Club,District 9250, the nearest Rotary Club to the area, over the past 3 years. The Center was equipped with kitchen equipment, office equipment, playground and educational developmental materials as well as ablution facilities through a previous Matching Grant facilitated by Francistown Rotary Club and North Cotswolds Rotary Club.
