This project, now entering its eighth, is a joint effort between the Sunrise Newport Beach Rotary Club, Working Wardrobe, and the Salvation Army of Orange County. Each of these partners plays a critical role in the project. The purpose is to provide support for adult men and women as they emerge from successful completion of Phase 2 of their alcohol and drug recovery programs at the Salvation Army and attempt to reenter the workforce.
The men and women enrolled in these programs have been isolated for some time from a typical community environment due to a number of reasons stemming from alcohol and drug abuse. Upon recovery, they face what can seem like a daunting prospect of becoming responsible community members again and that begins with finding gainful employment. Our program is designed to help these men and women build the necessary confidence to engage in a job search that will produce a successful outcome. In doing so, community needs are met in two ways. First, businesses within the community who have employment opportunities have some eager men and women to meet their needs. Second, families who have been without a father or mother can be reunited and begin rebuilding a healthy home for their children and themselves.
The project includes a program in the Fall for women and the men's program is in the Spring. The program length is six to eight weeks and both will be completed by May of 2014. The women's series will begin in early October and end before Thanksgiving. The men's series begins in February and ends before Easter.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Our club participation in this project approaches 90% which is extraordinary by Rotary standards. The reason for such high participation is that our club members can touch both these projects in so many different ways. Some will donate clothing to the Clothing Drive for Working Wardrobes which kicks of each project. Others will act as workshop coaches who lead small group activities during the workshops. Some members choose to act as "personal shoppers" for our clients during the Success Day held just after our weekly club meeting held at Working Wardrobes. Club members attend graduation for our clients and in doing so show their support for our clients as they begin their job search.
The public image plan will include but not be limited to the Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Weekly Newsletter , the Rotary Wheel appears on the plaques awarded for graduation, the Club Rotary Banner will be present at the Success Day to be held at Working Wardrobes and at the graduation ceremony to be held at the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center in Orange County Adult Rehabilitation Center, the project has been written up in previous years in the District 5320 Newsletter, a presentation was made on this project to the Club Presidents meeting for the District in 2013, and the Service Club Column authored by Jim DeBoom in the Newport Beach Daily Pilot.
