Due to ever increasing requirement of water specially for agriculture, the level of under ground water has been steadily going down and ponds & wells go dry in summer, leading to acute shortage of water. The project seeks to harvest rain water and re-charge the underground water and provide Sanitary Toilet and Clean Drinking water to 1,500 villagers of Vill: Belpara PO Dakshindihi Dist Hooghly, West Bengal.

Project will provide equitable community access to safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene; Strengthening the ability of communities to develop, fund and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems; Supporting programs that enhance communities' awareness of the benefits of safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

Memorandum of Understanding signed by HEB Club President and forwarded via email to obtain signatures from RC Central Calcutta and RCC Dakshindihi.

RC Central Calcutta has forwarded their contribution US$ 8150/- to TRF/RFI. However, we need to forward a hard copy of the signed Agreement & a new project Bank Account details to Rotary Foundation (India). Await confirmation of action by International Partners.

All formalities have been completed ... we expect to receive funds fro TRF in the next two weeks. Start implementation January'15.

Project was inaugurated on Sunday 18th January'15 by Children of Vasant Valley School, New Delhi who raised substantial funds for this project. Since then approx 100 Soak Pits have been constructed and ten Toilets.

Project Chair - PP Subhas Kankaria visits Village Belpara regularly to oversee & guide the project. As on 14th April'15 he reports that 78 Soak Pits and 20 Sanitary Toilets have been installed. Photographs have been uploaded ... with his grand daughter.

Pleasure to inform that the project is being implemented.

The following completed -

100 Soak Pits for rain Water harvesting & underground water re-charge

75 Low cost Toilets out of 150.

Several gatherings of beneficiaries to impart good Health & Hygiene and knowledge of use & maintenance of Toilets.

RCCentral Calcutta has completed -

100 Soak Pits which have this year lead to availability of sufficient water for agriculture.

131 Toilets completed leading to improved health & hygiene

In the last interim report have requested TRF to utilise funds saved for WinS in a school. Await response.

The Project has been completed expect for Tubewells. These have been provided by the Government. We find that we will be able save funds from the project as follows -

1. Tubewells Rs 1,50,000/- (Govt has provided Tubewells)

2. 150 Toilets Rs -

3. 100 Soak Pits Rs -

4. Pamphlets Rs 1,00,000/- (Printed concessional Rate)

5. Honorarium approx Rs 20,000/-

6. Interest approx Rs 75,000/-
