   Uganda - Kampala

Baby Incubators Project

the new baby born incubators project will take place in Uganda in 4 referral and strategically located hospitals and health centers especially in areas with high prevalence of premature births. The funds will be utilized to acquire: 22 Van Hemel baby Incubators (US$ 20,538), and fueld for contractors and monitors (US$ 337). The project will benefit over 800 Neo-natal patients per year who currently suffer mental retardation, disease and death - due to the poor incubation facilities even in the major hospitals The Club plans to cover 4 health units under this project. More hospitals will be identified for a future Project.

The Matching Grant application number from TRF is #70315.

The TRF Staff in charge of this grant is Stephen Copek (Stephen.Copek@rotary.org).

The project is very critical due to the appalling conditions of incubation facilities in Uganda.

The following information was requested by Stephen Copek, Rotary Foundation:
•Budget Eligibility: The budget items "Rotary Stickers", "News Paper Coverage", and "Radio and TV Coverage" are not eligible expenses under the current guidelines set by the Board of Trustees. Please update you budget to include eligible expenses in their place.
•Pro Forma Invoice: Please provide a pro forma invoice for the purchase of the infant incubators.
It has been sent to the Foundation and copies are attached on the Matching Grant Project D1252 page.

20 Incubators arrived in Uganda, 2 more expected by the supplier by the end of Feb 2010. Recepient hospitals being prepared to received the equipment so Project can be closed in March 2010.

Request for susbstitution of Kasangati Health Center with Kawolo Hospital, submitted to TRF. Kasangati Health Center unable to prepare infrastructure to receive the equipment. Handover of equipment scheduled for 8th March 2010.
