Baby Incubators Project #2

The new Baby Incubators Project #2 will take place in 5 regional referral Hospitals and Namalemba Health Center (in a high prevalence area). The funds will be used to procure 20 VAN HEMEL neonatal incubators (US$ 18,672) and fuel for contractors and monitors (US$ 395). The Project will benefit about 720 neonatal patients every year at the above project sites. This project builds on the Baby Incubators Project #1 (reference D 1252, MG 70315) that covers 4 other health units.

Following communication from Rtn. Phillipe Lamoise regarding special funding for projects approved by TRF but not funded due to exhaustion of funds, we have adjusted the funding as above including funding of US$ 1,125 from the Indian women Association of Uganda.

Changes made to eliminate budgeted expenses for Rotary Stickers, Newspaper Coverage, and Radio and TV Coverage, that are ineligible under current TRF guidelines. Theses costs shall be born by RC of Kampala North and its local partners. Also, the number of incubators raised from 19 to 20, project budget reduced from US$ 19,250 to US$ 19,067. Number of beneficiaries adjusted to over 720 asuming average of 3 infants per incubator per month.

As of August 2009, the Matching Grant budget has been fully committed and the Trustees of the Foundation are unable to awared any TRF funding for your grant. You may proceed with this project by resubmitting with a revised budget without TRF funds for at least $10,000 or by adding additional funding.

Got confirmation from TRF that the latest contribution from Torrey Pines of $3,500 was received. I sent the remaining $370 to Stephen Copek today as a contribution on my credit card.

Project budget has been revised to increase the number of incubators from 20 to 30 because of a favorable exchange rate and decreases in prices. A new list of hospitals has been approved by TRF. The incubators will be handed over to 9 Health Units by DG Eric Kimani on July 5 at Rubaga Hospital.
