Mwanza Malaria Project

Phase 1 of a diverse, multi-club Project to help reduce child mortality on an island (Ukerewe) in South Lake Victoria. This adopts Immediate Past RI President D K Lee’s aims. Population of 350,000 served by 1 hospital (Bukumbi) in Nansio, the main town on Ukerewe, with 23 dispensaries and 3 clinics. 1 in 16 babies die, amongst the highest rate in Africa. One million children die every year from malaria: one every 30 seconds. Malaria kills adults and badly affects the ability to work and earn.
