   India - Kolkata

Eye Hospital

$55,200

Eye care in many parts of Kolkata (Calcutta) and its fringe areas is unavailable, inaccessible and unaffordable to the economically underprivileged. The quality of surgery is sub-optimal often ending in poor results and the followup inadequate. Therefore there is a need for developing of a high quality, low cost, self sustaining permanent infrastructure of eye care accessible to underserved areas. In india alone, more than three-fourth of the blindness is avoidable if appropriate eye care were available. If such eye care were developed, it would result in major socioeconomic gains for the society. The situation in eastern india is not very different from the rest of the country. It is against this background that this project proposes to set up and develop a high quality eye care center providing comprehensive eye care to all segments of society irrespective of their financial status.

To provide best quality eye care facilities to poor people who cannot afford the same, another eye hospital has been conceived by our club. Such eye care hospital shall benefit about 20000 people annually. It will provide proper eye check ups, eye care and eye operation facilities at free or very minimum costs. It will take nearly three months to complete the project.
