   Mexico - Tijuana

Computers and Desks

$25,000

This project is a project of Serving Hands International

In Mexico the government pays only for the construction of their schools and the salary of their teachers. Many of the schools in the poor areas of Tijuana do not have the funds for decent classroom desks, and much less for computers in their libraries. We have met with principals and teachers in twelve schools in some of the poorest colonias in the Tijuana region to determine their needs. Classrooms desks and computers were high on their list of needs that they feel will help then give their students the opportunity for a good education. We as Rotarians believe that education is the only long range solution to those who desire to remove themselves from poverty into a self sufficient lifestyle. A lifestyle in which they can contribute to society, and remove themselves from dependency on charitable organizations such as Rotary.
